OVER THE TOP EXPEDITION

Every year in Australia, close to 3,300 men die of prostate cancer – equal to the amount of women who die from breast cancer.

The Over The Top Expedition was developed by brothers Peter and Phillip Jenkins who have a family history of prostate cancer. Both wanted to do something ‘over the top’ to generate funds and raise awareness on the key preventative actions for prostate cancer.

So they decided to go over the top...literally. Starting in early August 2011, the brothers will travel across the top of Australia in an 8.6 metre rigid inflatable boat commonly referred to as a ‘rubber ducky’.  Starting in Sydney, the expedition will cover some of Australia’s most untouched, harsh and beautiful coastline, finishing in Perth.

Peter and Phillip will stop in at 26 locations during their journey. Presentations and events will be held at each stop to raise funds and awareness of this deadly and relatively unknown killer of men.

The goal of the Over The Top Expedition is to raise awareness and $200,000 to continue research into effective prostate cancer detection and treatment.

The Hub Marketing Communications is providing more than $30,000 of in-kind support to the expedition through the coordination of all marketing, graphic design and media activities. The Hub is also assisting in fundraising activities and will be the ‘on-the-ground’ support for Peter and Phillip at each location presentation.

Proceeds raised from the Over The Top Expedition will go to Cancer Council WA.

SMALL ENTERPRISE NETWORK

The Hub Managing Director, Nicolle Jenkins was recently selected as Vice Chair for the SEN (Small Enterprise Network) Advisory Panel. The Advisory Panel aims to generate and influence debate on issues at a state and national level to ensure an environment exists which is beneficial to the success of all WA small businesses.

Where relevant, SEN provides advice to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA forums, Committees and General Council on all matters relevant to the small business sector.

Nicolle looks forward to being part of the Panel and supporting Chair, Kate Lamont.

“It is incredibly rewarding being part of a Panel of likeminded small business owners all striving for a common goal of advising the private sector and federal, state and local governments on small business.”

“I am passionate about assisting the small business sector, which is not so small - to aid further growth and development opportunities throughout Western Australia.”

Manager for SEN Andrew Canion said "SEN's mission is to provide a big voice for small business. Combined with our range of networking opportunities and practical business support, we believe SEN membership can add value to any small business.”
